Countryside
Description: Original concept was to seek proposals to convert Countryside Golf Course into mixed-use development.
Cost Estimate: Unknown
Funding: Private developer
Announced: Land purchased by city in 2005 for $4.1 million. Three rounds of proposals for development have been unsuccessful in selection of a developer.
Timeframe: Current management contract for golf course is extended through October 2008. On September 15, 2008, the City Council voted 6 to 1 to approve a non-binding motion that designates Countryside as an 18 hole golf course. The City Council also voted to include $1.1 million in improvements to the golf course in the RFP to manage and operate the course. The September 15th motion also requires the City to design a response to its own RFP.
On March 2, 2009, City Council instructed city staff to issue an RFP for proposals to manage the golf course for a five to ten year period. On October 22, 2009, the City Council voted 5 to 2 to provide $1.5 million to fund repairs to the irrigation system and the cart path and improve the driving range and clubhouse.
Due to budgetary shortfalls, City Council terminated their arrangement with Meadowbrook Golf, Inc. the company that had been managing and operating the golf course since 2005. Meadowbrook will manage the course until March 1, 2010. The City is evaluating future uses and plans to work with stakeholders in a series of public meetings.
