Business Leadership Fund

The Business Leadership Fund represents a focused effort to elect progressive, pro-business candidates to city councils and boards of supervisors in the Roanoke Region. The fund identifies, endorses, and provides election support to qualified candidates whose principles are consistent with those of business and industry. It is the only political action committee representing the overall business community in the region.

Why a political action committee?

The Roanoke Region has experienced very little growth in the last 20 years. Unless we bring about significant, positive change, we could be facing the same pattern, or worse, in the next 20. Helping the region thrive requires that the business community step forward and elect people who are progressive and forward-thinking.

What's the source of funding?

The Business Leadership Fund operates solely on the contributions of individuals and businesses in the Roanoke Region - people like you who want to ensure progressive political leadership for our future. Your contribution is used solely to support pro-business candidates.

How are the candidates selected?

The Board of Directors of the Business Leadership Fund interviews candidates for possible endorsement. Incumbents are evaluated based on their voting records, philosophy and key issues as well. General criteria include: fiscal responsibility, visionary leadership, personal integrity, and support of education, regional cooperation, and economic development.

Too often, good potential candidates exist but choose not to run. The Business Leadership Fund also seeks out and encourages qualified candidates for office and provides financial support that could make the difference.

Why should I participate?

Organized labor and special interest groups have already demonstrated how effective political activity can be in accomplishing their objectives. Their gains have often been at the expense of business. The Business Leadership Fund mobilizes the business community for a stronger voice.

There's an old saying that if you're in business, you're in politics. As a taxpayer and employer, you know that local government philosophy and policy represent a significant cost to you and your customers. Decisions made in local government affect your business. Shouldn't you have a say in the process?

Finding pro-business candidates and helping them win election to local office is the best way to protect your livelihood and your investment.
